In this home in the Cooper neighborhood, the lower level was reimagined to improve both performance and livability. The existing basement had limited ceiling height and outdated mechanical systems, leaving the space feeling virtually unusable. The project began with major infrastructure upgrades designed to enhance comfort and long-term efficiency. A new boiler system and radiant in-floor heating now provide consistent warmth throughout the level. To dramatically improve the sense of space, the basement floor was excavated to increase ceiling height—transforming the area into a comfortable and fully functional part of the home.
The redesigned layout includes a new bathroom, a relaxed sitting room, a dedicated home office, and a designated laundry area, along with integrated storage throughout. A new egress window brings natural light into the basement, brightening the space and strengthening its connection to the rest of the house. An industrial-inspired wood slat ceiling adds warmth and texture, balancing the technical upgrades with a thoughtful design finish.
